FAQ license

Some time ago I paid for a license, but I did not receive anything yet. Now what?
Obviously something went wrong...
In search for the optimum action you might arrive here ;)
Embarrassing as it is, we may have missed your payment. Please contact helpdesk@musicad.com to resolve the issue.
Perhaps a typo - check your payment account whether the payment was made correctly, and check whether the email-address was mentioned correctly with your payment.
Did you download/install/try MusiCAD?
Intentionally, when MusiCAD gets downloaded and installed on a computer connected to the internet, a fingerprint-code is sent to our server to prepare a license. As soon as you are satisfied (try-before-you-buy) with the program you make a payment and should receive a personalized license based on name and before mentioned fingerprint. If you did not install MusiCAD yet, we do not have your computer's fingerprint code, so we can not provide you immediately with a license. As soon as you (re)install MusiCAD or complete [Help|Register] menu-item, we receive the necessary information to construct your license (which you will receive of course).
Should you conclude that MusiCAD isn't the right tool for your needs after all, and you still did not receive a license, you may request a refund.
Is MusiCAD easily transferred from one PC to another without need of a new license?
A license for MusiCAD is hardware dependent and cannot be transferred to another computer. However, a second license is available for only 10 euro. Your music (saved on computer with a valid license) can be used anywhere without license.
I get 'funny' looking scores when I open music written on my laptop on my desktop. On my laptop everything looks OK...
Most likely you were using MusiCAD unlicensed on your laptop... Your scores are scrambled such way that the can be unscrambled only on your laptop. If you want to be able to transfer scores from one PC to another, be sure to have a valid license on the computer you are writing your scores.
I just bought a new computer and now I can't read my scores anymore; all notes are wrong!
Obviously you didn't have a (valid) license for your old computer... To be able to use your scores again, buy a license, and email your scores to Musys Software so that we can unscramble your scores. A licensed MusiCAD version will save scores unscrambled for use on any other computer.
Is there a MusiCAD version for Apple / Mac ?
MusiCAD is a Windows-only program...
However, it is possible to install a wonderful (free) toolset called Wine on a Mac that will allow you to run (m)any Windows-only programs.
Detailed instruction can be found at: http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/
I have been using MusiCAD for about a year. When I created a new file today and tried to save it, MusiCAD appears to have gone back to demo mode - i.e., it required the entry of a code to do the save. Has the license expired or something?
Licenses do not expire - at least they shouldn't.
However, sometimes the license does not appear to be valid anymore.
If hardware had been changed, or the registered name had been altered, the license will - of course - not be valid anymore. First thing to try is walk again through the registration form while running MusiCAD [Help|Regstration]. Use the flashlight button to submit the actual installation request information. In most cases this will re-enable the license. If necessary we'll provide the original license again.
If your hardware had been (radically) changed (or you are using another computer) you'll have to buy a new (second) license (currently 10 euro).
I have downloaded and installed Musicad. This is the same PC as used with a licensed version of musicad with a new main board and processor and the operating system reloaded. I don't think I should re-enter the old license number as it will probably not recognise it. Please advise, I will, if need be buy a second license but as this is still the same same PC I don't think I should.
A new main board and processor will definitely cause MusiCAD to 'see' a new PC. In fact it is a new PC, so you do need to purchase an additional license (10 euro)
On the other hand, should you replace the PC's case by a flashy new case while keeping main board/processor, the license should remain valid.
Upgrading the operating system should leave your license valid as well. To continue unlicensed please enter 0 as a temporary license - entering your previous (for a new PC illegal) license will cause trouble (leaving edited files unreadable)
MusiCAD could not be verified!
On installing MusiCAD on Windows-Vista or Windows 7, you will almost immediately get a notification from Windows that it "cannot verify" its publisher.
Of course Windows is right...
Currently we do not have any certificates to give Windows a way of verification. Nor do we have a site certificate. We are trying to keep prices as low as possible; expensive, yearly to be renewed, certifications from Microsoft or Verisign do not fit into that picture.
Since our site does not allow immediate sales, site verification is no big deal. As long as you download MusiCAD from one of our sites musicad.org, musicad.nl, musicad.com or musicad.eu you can be quite sure that it is the original software.
Furthermore, MusiCAD is equipped with a built in check whether the program is unmodified, so hackers will have a hard time getting their 'job' done.
Last but not least, keep in mind that in the end any software/site will remain vulnerable to attacks, so certificates might give a wrong sense of security...
