flags

Notes shorter than 1/4 usually get one or more flags depending on the note duration.

1/8 1 flag
1/16 2 flags
1/32 3 flags
1/64 4 flags

Short note duration notes can be grouped together under 1 beam

In MusiCAD these are called note clusters.

You can cluster individual notes (notated with flags) and put them under 1 beam with <,> or the cluster button.

Decoupling or un-clustering in reverse is also possible and is done with <'> or the uncluster button.

MusiCAD performs clustering automatically using the time signature.

In a vocals part it is sometimes customary to write each note separately, regardless of its duration.
